About Hosein Kouros-Mehr, MD, PhD

Author, physician-scientist, and founder of SOS Mind

Hosein Kouros-Mehr, MD, PhD is an author, physician-scientist, and founder of SOS Mind who has spent more than two decades in medical research. Drawing from his scientific background, contemplative practice, and personal experience, his work explores the intersection of neuroscience, attention, emotional well-being, and human flourishing.

While studying emerging discoveries in neuroscience, Dr. Kouros-Mehr recognized the extraordinary implications of the brain’s Default Mode Network (DMN)—the system closely associated with self-reflection, identity, rumination, and the human ego. Motivated by both clinical insight and lived experience, he wrote Break Through: Master Your Default Mode and Thrive to help readers understand the DMN and develop healthier patterns of thought, awareness, and behavior.

In his follow-up book, Focus Hijacked, Dr. Kouros-Mehr expands on this work by exploring the brain’s Salience Network and its role in shaping attention, emotional responses, habits, perception, and meaning throughout our waking moments. He presents clear explanations and simple daily exercises to guide readers to learn the Salience Method to Reset, Release, and Rebuild their mind with greater clarity, awareness, and purpose. With these insights and tools, readers can master the ability to be present in the here and now—and fully enjoy the present moment with peace and joy.

Dr. Kouros-Mehr is also the author of the futuristic novels Extinction 6 and Project Bodi: Awaken the Power of Insight, both of which explore the untapped potential and inner workings of the human mind. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and children.
